NSF relocation will mean changes to some longstanding program deadlines

In a webinar outlining the most important changes to the NSF’s PAPPG last week (read more about that here, here, and here), Head of the Policy Office, Division of Institution and Award Support, Jean Feldman, gave participants a heads-up about another upcoming change: moved-up submission deadlines for several NSF programs.

Feldman says these changes — which will affect even long-established deadlines for some recurring programs — are necessary because of NSF’s move from its current space in Arlington, VA to its new space in Alexandria, VA.

The move is scheduled to take place August through October of 2017 and will require all NSF computer systems to be shut down and physically relocated. Deadlines are being moved up to allow submission of proposals prior to systems being shut down. In addition to the changed submission deadlines, Feldman also advised webinar participants that NSF systems, including Fastlane, may be down for days at a time during the relocation period.

We will continue to update you with new posts as additional information becomes available. In the meantime, if you plan to submit a proposal to the NSF in 2017, it’s a good idea to verify the deadline, even (and maybe especially) if you’re submitting to a program you already have experience with.
