On November 10, OARS and The Graduate School will host Miami University’s first-ever Discovery Café.
Modeled on the Science Café concept originated by the PBS documentary series Nova, Discovery Café helps celebrate Miami’s Year of Creativity + Innovation. It is a fun, casual — and free! — way to find out what’s new and next in nearly every field, from art to mechanical engineering to zoology.
At each café, some of Miami University’s most dynamic researchers, scholars, and artists share their research findings and creative discoveries. On November 10, Dennis Cheatham, Joe Johnson, and Gillian Oakenfull will explore the theme “Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.”
Dennis Cheatham is a design researcher exploring how design affects human perception and behavior on topics of mental health, failure, and end-of-life decisions.
Joe Johnson’s research seeks to understand how people actually make decisions by examining the processes that lead to decision outcomes.
Gillian Oakenfull’s research focuses on what affects decisions in the gay and lesbian consumer market and how branding shapes consumer decisions.
After the experts offer their perspective, the audience gets a chance to ask questions and engage in conversation.
All are welcome to attend the event, which takes place at 7:00pm on Tuesday, November 10 in the AIS on the first floor of Miami University’s King Library. Light refreshments will be served.
